Methodology

Clarity of purpose
At the start of the coaching process, I work with the client and the client’s boss (the Sponsor) to be clear on the objectives of the coaching and how they relate to the needs and aims of the organisation. This can usually be covered in one short meeting, ideally face-to-face. In this meeting as well as the coaching objectives we also agree the success measures we will use to measure progress during the coaching programme.

Chemistry meetings
If I have not yet met the client, we set up a meeting, lasting approximately 45 minutes, to make sure the client is comfortable working with me and the “chemistry” works. This is also a good opportunity for the client to ask any questions they may have about coaching, what is required of them and what they can expect to get from it. If a client wishes to talk to previous clients then I am happy to arrange this.

Intensity of meetings
Typically I work with clients face-to-face, meeting once per month for 1˝ to 2 hours. Usually the first meeting is 2 to 2˝ hours to allow us to work through some initial information sharing and goal setting. The frequency of meetings varies depending on the nature of the coaching needs. Meetings may be more frequent, for example every 2-3 weeks, for someone working to a specific deadline.

Where appropriate, I also work with clients by telephone. This is particularly effective when the client travels extensively or is based overseas. Telephone coaching sessions are typically1 hour long and scheduled every 2 weeks.

Coaching venue
I meet with my clients wherever they are most comfortable to work. This can be in their own office, in a meeting room at their offices, or in an informal location such as an hotel lounge. In this way they choose surroundings that suit them and the time they spend away from their desk is focused on the coaching itself.

Confidentiality
All discussions and materials shared between the client and myself remain completely confidential unless the client wishes to share them. Conversations with the Sponsor focus on the client organisation’s objectives for the coaching and progress towards them ..

Quality
As part of my commitment to continuous high professional standards, I work regularly with a trained and qualified coach to peer review my work. Full client confidentiality is maintained throughout this process.
